Oh, so you've just received your a level results? Wicked! How did you do? 4 As? Your parents must be so proud! What? They don't know what A levels are? Well, makes it all the better, doesn't it? Ah, sorry, I thought you said - no? Okay, good then, at least they won't be disappointed in you. Daddy's going to tell all his Accountant friends, then?
So, what next? Got a place in that course? Good, lucky thing. You have no idea that 5325 number of applicants were turned away - with 4 As, mind you - did you? Was all over the papers the other day. They're not happy at all, which must make you feel a lot better. Well, if anything, thank your lucky stars. Of course, I believe in luck, how else do I explain where I am? Hey, but this isn't about me, it's about you!
Anyway, are the tickets to Brazil booked? Wow, I'm jealous. You know, this is the best bit. Even better than taking a year out after you graduate. You're young, you're 18, and you're making a Difference to the Amazon. No, I don't think it's presumptuous or even pompous to assume that you're helping to make their lives better. At any rate, it's better to do it now than later. To do it now before you get saddled with these debts. But what am I talking about? You'll be fine with the debts. After all, the internships in the penultimate summer will more than pay them off!
My goodness, I am so sorry! That's not what you want? No, it's cool. Lots of people would kill to be able to say that. I don't mean it literally; they don't have the guts to actually do so. Now, seriously, though, I don't mean to be patronising or anything, but this is a problem we have here. You have to have at least some idea of what you are going to be when you grow up, because you need to start building on it young. I really don't want to scare you, but it is quite important that if you haven't done anything concrete for that, you need to make use of the next three years to do so. How else are you going to stand out and beat the competition when the time comes?
But I have talked at you enough. You must be tired of my old wisdom by now! I remember being very put out whenever people who were through it all came back to talk at me about their experiences. Nah, don't worry about it, it was a pleasure. You're a great kid, you know, much potential, and I really like what I see in you. Good luck with it all. Remember: the world is there for you to conquer it! You have so much going for you, it's exciting, so go get 'em, buster!
